- Oxygen - Oxygen purity is vital to efficient production. For example, 99.5% pure oxygen can produce high quality, flame-cut edges. A drop of one percent in oxygen purity slows cutting speed 25 percent. At 95 percent oxygen purity, an oxy-fuel cutting torch will not cut steel at all.
- Acetylene - Acetylene is one of the fuel gases used in oxy-fuel gas welding. The heat and temperature produced by an acetylene flame depend on the amount of oxygen used to burn it. The usual grade is about 98.8 percent acetylene.
- Nitrogen
- Hydrogen
- Argon - Argon is the preferred shielding gas for many electric and welding applications either pure or in mixtures with helium carbon dioxide, and oxygen. Argon is mixed to suit the characteristics of a particular metal in MIG (GMAW) welding. It is also the most popular shielding has for TIG (GTAW) welding.
- Carbon Dioxide - Carbon Dioxide is used to freeze and chill food rapidly. It is extensively used in the carbonated beverage industry and for pH control and water treatment.
- Helium - Helium is used in its various forms for many different applications. Liquid helium is ideal for low-temperature superconductivity applications such as MRI.
